Prof. Munqez Shtaya is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of Plant Breeding and Genetic Engineering. Born on June 23, 1973, Pron. Shtaya currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Plant Production and Protection at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Engineering, An-Najah National University in Nablus, Palestine. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Plant Production and Protection from An-Najah National University, followed by a Diploma in Specialized Post-Graduate Studies in Plant Breeding from The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza, Spain. He then earned his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetic Engineering from the University of Córdoba, Spain, focusing on the identification and inheritance of resistance against fungal diseases in barley.
Prof. Shtaya's career spans several significant positions, including serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at An-Najah National University from 2008 to 2012, The director of the Scientific Centers since 2024 and the dean of the Faculty of Science since 2025. He has been actively involved in research, particularly in the areas of legume and cereal breeding for biotic and abiotic stress resistance and plant genetic resources conservation.
