We propose an extremely low-loss broadband polarization-insensitive absorber based
on tungsten meta-material in the thermal infrared region. The absorber exhibits almost
perfect absorption of 99%, with a broad bandwidth of absorption ranging from 56 to
117 THz. The broad absorption is attributed to the large effective impedance
adaptation of tungsten meta-material, and is accompanied by a wide angle range from
0° to 75° in terms of both transverse electrical (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) field
component polarizations. With its extraordinary electromagnetic properties, the
proposed system can achieve excellent performance, with a figure of merit 2.15×106
which is higher compared to the recent research reported for similar meta-material
absorber.
