The researcher talks about departure as a dominant subject in Abi Tamam poetry. The researcher has chosen this subject in particular as it’s well-known that Abu Tammam used to travel a lot among different countries searching for mental and physical knowledge.

Researchers noticed that the poet’s attitudes towards departure are not stable; they are unsteady. On the one hand, he praises travelling, urging and pushing people to travel and move justifying that by the physical, mental, or spiritual profits that the traveler can gain. On the other hand, he hates and curses it. He might talk about the self suffering as he says goodbye to his family and lovers. He reveals real aversion towards departure considering it an enemy.

All the images in his poetry result from his psychological status, his attitudes towards the people of the places that he visited, and his attitudes towards his family and lovers whom he left behind.
