Quality Evaluation of Concrete Block for Walls Production Using Statistical Process Control (SPC) Tools: A Palestinian Case Study.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a powerful quality control tool that can be used in production systems to monitor and improve product quality so that it can reduce waste, increase efficiency, and improve product quality, ultimately leading to increased customer satisfaction and profitability. The quality control system involves a set of measures that are designed to ensure that the products are of consistent quality and meet the required standards. This article aimed to review the ability of the Palestinian construction companies to apply the basic tools of SPC in their concrete block production systems for process improvement. A special focus in made on evaluating the production of concrete blocks used in walls and buildings according to the local standard. A local company was taken as a case study to monitor many characteristics such as dimensions, density, crushing load and compression strength using different tools such as control charts, histograms, cause-effect-diagram and capability analysis. This implementation methodology can be adopted as a guideline that other companies can follow in order to improve their quality levels and increase competitiveness among the Palestinian market. The used methodology can be summarized as follows: First, Identify the critical quality characteristics of the concrete blocks which are the features of the concrete blocks that are most important to customers. Determine the acceptable limits for each quality characteristic. Then, Collect data on the quality characteristics during production. Finally, Analyse the data using statistical techniques and take corrective actions if necessary.
