Plastic pollution is currently one of the most pressing environmental problems, especially in countries with a low recycling rate that is mainly due to the insufficient collection of plastic waste. Plastic production increased from 2.3 million tons in 1950 to about 450 million tons by 2015 and is expected to double by 2050.
