This course explores the basic principles and concepts of medication education and counseling to patients in community or inpatient settings. Introduces the student to principles of communication skills in pharmacy practice with patients and health care providers.

The student will become familiar with communication skills in pharmacy practice required for communication with patients and health professionals. The student will be able to provide appropriate patient counseling on diseases and medications commonly seen in of community or inpatient settin

a.1. Identify communication skills required in pharmacy practice

a.2. Identify communication barriers

a.3. collect and organize drug information to provide to patients

a.4. recognize appropriate communication skills required to effectively carry out an interview process with patients

b.1. Plan an effective interview by eliminating communication barriers.

b.2  .demonstrate an understanding of listening skills for effective communication with patients.

c- Professional and Practical Skills:

c.1. plan an interview with patients using the communication skills learned.

c.2. provide appropriate patient counseling on disease and medications

c.3. use appropriate nonverbal and verbal communication skills in counseling patients on their medications.
