This research is entitled “Selling the Unowned and Its Contemporary Implications in the Area of Debt”. It includes two studies, an introduction, a conclusion along with implications/recommendations for the significant findings.  The first study provides a discussion of the concept of selling the unowned which involves selling the nonexistent; it also provides the various opinions of religious scholars regarding its legality based on the misleading sale rather than selling the unknown.  The second study discussed the implications of selling the unknown in relation to debt.  Various kinds of old forms of selling the unknown and its legal standing, along with current examples of such sale as selling checks and dowry (mandatory and deferred) are discussed.  Contrary to the common belief among people that it is legal, the most important finding of the research is the legality of sale of the unknown at the point of issuing the contract in the absence of doubt and the possibility of existence.
