The Relationship between Parenting Styles and the Achievement of Psychological Identity by the Adolescents

            The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parenting styles and the achievement of psychological identity by the adolescents. The sample of the study consisted of 78 male and female student chosen randomly. To this end the researcher administered two instruments, the first to explore the parenting styles consisting of 4 items distributed into two fields, each containing four domains. The second was to explore the adolescents' achievement of this psychological Identity. It consisted of 60 items distributed into two domains. The findings of the study showed that the dominant parenting style was the democratic style and the dominant psychological identity status among adolescents was achieving this identity. Moreover, the findings showed that there was a positive significant relationship between the democratic style and achieving the psychological identity and there is a positive relationship between the authoritarian parenting style and protection neglecting, on one hand and the closed identity as well as disordered identity on the other hand There was a negative relationship between acceptance and the closed as well as disordered identity. There was a positive relation between abandoned style and closed psychological identity.
