This study was carried out to evaluate the reproducibility and reliability of plasmid profiles and electrophoretic protein patterns in typing gentamicin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa obtained from Hacettepe University Hospital (Turkey) and Princess Basma Hospital (Jordan). Plasmid profiles appeared to be less reliable as an epidemiological tool, since only 21,4% of the strains from Hacettepe University Hospital harbored plasmids and none was detected among the strains from Princess Basma Hospital. Electrophoretic protein patterns, on the other hand, were sufficiently distinct for identification of the strains originating from both hospitals.
