The Palestinian refugee camps were establi­shed 55 years ago to shelter the refugees who left their homes in Palestine as a result of the 1948 war. These disordered habitats were Iocated on the skirts of the major cities of the Occu­pied Palestinian Territories (West Bank and Gaza  Strip) and the neighbouring Arab countries, Ini­tially, the construction of these camps was thought to be temporary for refugees who were waiting to return to their homes. Today. the refugee  camps represent alienated neighbourhoods within or around cities where they were original­ly located
