Purpose: This study aimed to identify the extent to which the Public Relations Department at the Palestinian Ministry of
Finance uses communication strategies to counter fake news during the financial crisis in Palestine from 2021 to 2024. It also sought to
identify the most prominent communication strategies used by the Public Relations Department in addressing fake news.
Methodology: To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive-analytical approach was adopted. Content analysis was used as
the main research instrument, employing a mixed-method approach that combines quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Results: The results showed that the denial strategy was one of the most frequently used communication strategies by the Public
Relations Department at the Palestinian Ministry of Finance, accounting for 38%. The attack-the-accuser strategy ranked second, with
22%, while the apology strategy was the least used, with a rate of 0%..
Conclusion: The findings indicate that the Public Relations Department at the Palestinian Ministry of Finance relies predominantly on
defensive strategies — chiefly denial and attacking the accuser — while avoiding apology altogether, reflecting a general orientation
toward protecting the Ministry's image and disclaiming responsibility rather than acknowledging it.
Recommendations: The study recommends that the Ministry diversify its communication strategies rather than relying primarily on
denial; adopt a dialogue-based strategy with employees; establish dedicated crisis-management teams within government institutions;
prepare pre-emptive crisis response plans; and provide specialized training for public relations staff in handling media and news crises.
