This study aimed to examine Palestinian youths’ attitudes toward Donald Trump’s media discourse concerning the Palestinian issue. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and employed a questionnaire administered to a convenience sample of 200 young men and women from Nablus aged between 18 and 34 years.
The findings revealed a high level of exposure to and follow-up of Trump’s speeches, with an overall mean of (3.73). The content of the media discourse was evaluated negatively, with a total mean of (4.03), reflecting a strong perception of bias in favor of the Israeli occupation. The item indicating that Trump’s discourse demonstrates absolute support for the Israeli occupation recorded the highest mean (4.29).
The results further showed that Trump’s discourse had a significant cognitive and political impact on Palestinian youth (overall mean = 4.05), particularly in increasing political anger and reducing trust in the United States as a neutral mediator Participants expressed a preference for rational and critical engagement with the discourse, as focusing on objective analysis ranked first among suggested responses (31.5%).
Statistically significant differences were found according to place of residence (in favor of youth living in villages and refugee camps) and employment sector (in favor of those working in the educational sector), while no significant differences were associated with gender, age, or educational level.
