Abstract
Shari’a governance in contemporary Islamic financial institutions

Purpose: The study aims to address the issue of Sharia governance in contemporary Islamic financial institutions, by clarifying what is meant by Sharia governance, explaining its reality in contemporary Islamic financial institutions, the impact of its imbalance on the Sharia compliance therein, the responsibility of the supervisory authorities in organizing and activating it, and what is meant by unifying the Sharia reference for the Sharia bodies, with Explaining its importance in preserving the identity of Islamic financial institutions, ending with exploring the prospects for Sharia governance.
Methodology: The study followed a descriptive and analytic approach,
Findings: The study arrived at different findings, the most outstanding are: Sharia governance aims to ensure integrity and effectiveness in supervising the organization's goal of compliance with Islamic Sharia. Important governance standards have been developed, by (IFSB) and (AAOIFI). The importance of unifying the Sharia reference in preserving the identity of Islamic financial institutions. The necessity of real independence for members of Sharia bodies from executive departments. And establishing a sound perception of their role. And expanding the scope of their work to include all relationships in the organization. And creating representative bodies to protect the interests of depositors, financiers and subscribers in Islamic financial institutions. And creating detailed jurisprudential standards, to build a sound methodology in issuing fatwas, which guides the process of issuing fatwas and jurisprudential diligence
