contextual theory through his famous book, "Dala'il Al-I'jaz. "The book does not address contextualism as a purely linguistic semantic field, but rather as a subject to be analyzed and viewed from the perspective of grammar and rhetoric. Thus, Al Jurjani's viewpoints intersect with those of the contextualist school, and the arguments are similar, while the discussion differs.
The research methodology is based on descriptive and analytical research, combining existing knowledge, represented by modern contextual theory, with Al-Jurjani's own insights, which he disseminated in his book "Dala'il al-I'jaz," about context and its impact on meaning. The research consists of an introduction, six chapters, and a conclusion. The study was limited to "Dala'il al-I'jaz," to the exclusion of other books, because it contains profound theorizing, embodied in the theory of versification, in addition to its specialization in grammar and syntax.
The research takes a different approach than previously written about contextualism, examining the four categories of context in al-Jurjani's work: linguistic, emotional, cultural, and situational context. It clarifies and analyzes their dimensions.
The questions this research answers are: Were the four categories of context present at the core of al-Jurjani's thought and linguistic study? Are there common denominators between the categories of context, as mentioned by K. Ammer, and what al-Jurjani included in Dalā'il al-I'jaz in his study of syntax and rhetoric? What are the manifestations of this similarity in perspectives? To what extent did the categories of context play a role in directing meaning according to al-Jurjani?
The research concluded by revealing the roots of the contextual theory in the evidence of miracles, showing the similarities in the linguistic semantic views between (K. Ammer) through his division of the context into four sections, each of which is concerned with directing the semantic meaning based on a specific framework. Al-Jurjani went out to direct the meaning through the context within the framework of the theory of systems and its representations in the grammatical structure and rhetorical stylistic expression.
Keywords: contextual theory, evidence of miracles, Abdul Qaher Al-Jurjani, linguistic context, emotional context, cultural context, and situational context.
