This study, aims at exploring the attitudes of Palestinian female ex-prisoners toward Palestinian media coverage of their situation during the Al-Aqsa Deluge operation, in light of the unprecedented escalation in Israeli violations against prisoners following the operation. The study adopted a descriptive analytical approach, employing two primary data collection tools: an electronic questionnaire distributed to a sample of 110 female ex-prisoners, and in-depth interviews with four Palestinian journalists who had also experienced imprisonment.
Findings indicated that female prisoners actively followed the media coverage of their issue. However, they expressed critical observations regarding the poor quality of coverage, perceiving Palestinian media as suffering from seasonality in its approach, lacking depth and specialized analysis, particularly in highlighting the humanitarian and legal aspects of their cause. They also pointed to structural challenges confronting Palestinian media outlets, most notably resource scarcity, political fragmentation, and insufficient professional training for journalists in human rights issues as internal challenges, while the occupation constituted a primary external challenge to coverage.
