Green construction projects in Palestine frequently encounter disputes among the contractual parties, including owners, designers, and contractors. This study seeks to identify and assess the causes of such disputes. Approximately thirty-three dispute triggers specific to green construction projects were identified through a combination of literature analysis and expert interviews. Subsequently, a meticulously designed questionnaire was distributed randomly to fifty industry professionals. A five-point Likert scale was employed to rank the significance of each identified cause.
The results of the study highlighted several significant causes of disputes, including issues with the management of green construction activities, a lack of awareness within project teams about the unique aspects of green construction projects, and the common occurrence of incomplete bid documents tailored to green construction. These disputes often arise from the unfamiliarity of project teams with the specific requirements of green construction projects. Consequently, unqualified designers and project managers are often assigned to oversee these projects, exacerbating the potential for conflicts. The findings from this study can serve as a valuable guide to improve collaboration and coordination among contractual parties in future green construction projects, aiming to reduce adversarial relationships. Furthermore, these insights are expected to enhance the awareness and familiarity of contractual parties with the distinctive demands of green construction projects.
