In the Palestinian territories, most of the electricity is provided by the neighboring countries which imposes a burden on the Palestinian economy due to the shortage, insecurity of the electricity supply, and fluctuation in its tariff especially in the last years.

This paper investigates the importance of solar PV systems for the Palestinian electricity market to solve the problem of supply shortages in electrical networks, especially in the daily peak demand periods. The measurement results of installing 420 kW grid-connected PV systems on the rooftop of the university buildings show that the project yields energy about 827 MWh annually which is about 21.4 % of total annual energy consumption at An-Najah National University.
