Abstract

Three novel neutral Ru(II) complexes were synthesized in good yields using (2,2-dimethoxyethyl)diphenylphosphine, POO = Ph2PCH2CH(OCH3)2 hemilabile diether-phosphine of the general formulas Cl2Ru(POO)2 (1) and Cl2Ru(POO)2(NN) (NN = ethylendiamine (2) or 1,2-cyclohexyldiamine (3). The complexes were characterized by 31P-, 1H-, 13C NMR, FAB-MS, cyclic voltammetry (CV), UV–Vis, FT-IR, TG/DTA, and XRD. The regular octahedral trans-Cl2Ru(POO)2(NN) structure of trans-3 has been solved by XRD. The C–H⸱⸱⸱Cl2Ru(II) metallo-supramolecular synthons and CMe-H⸱⸱⸱H-CPh Van-der-Waals (VdW) interactions linking dimers were detected. Hirshfeld surface analysis (HSA) corroborated the XRD-packing result in the presence of several molecular short contacts. The hemilability phenomena in PO ligand served to monitor the reaction process completeness via 31P{1H} NMR. The solvents effects have been investigated via the time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculation and experimental solvatochromism using several solvents. The trans to cis- complete solvoisomerization process in the complexes using a chlorinated solvent were regulated by CV and 31P{1H} NMR parallel measurements.
