Abstract
The research addresses the distinct role of metaphor in identifying the personality of Ibn Taymiyyah, Sheikh (scholar) of Islam, through the poetry in which praise and lamentations were said. And this comes in two axes:
The research demonstrates the factors from which poets derived their metaphors in portraying the character of Ibn Taymiya, while also indicating the similarity of those metaphors with what was mentioned in the biography of Ibn Taymiya in a rhetorical style that reveals the people’s love for him and their condolences for his parting.
