The Problem of Non-Performing Loans in Islamic Banks
Publication Type
Original research
Authors

This research addressed one of the most significant problems facing banking, namely, customers' failure to pay or delays; Especially with Islamic banks relying mainly on financing sales and controlling the bulk of the bank's money employment.

The research has shown that the causes of the problem are complex between the bank itself and the methods of granting it financing, and depend on the customer's nature, seriousness, or willingness to pay, as well as the general circumstances affecting this. The effects of this stumbling block on Islamic banking activity and the nature of the guarantees and conditions required for granting the financing have also emerged.

The research provided some of the suggested methods for addressing and mitigating the problem, distinguishing between the cause of the disruption and possible remedies for each case, such as insolvency, bankruptcy, denial, or procrastination, and possibly remedies, such as fines, imprisonment, and seizure of goods.

Keywords: banking problems, distressed debts, Islamic banks, financial transactions, Fatayer.
