The study aims at identifying the situation of scientific research and the obstacles might face students of higher education at Sharia faculties with students of An-Najah National University as a sample. The study includes three sections. The first section defines scientific research, its characteristics and aims in an attempt to reveal the importance of research. Section two introduces and analyses study plans for higher education Sharia faculties and suggests steps for developing such plans. Section three is an analysis of the interviews with lecturers and questionnaires for students aiming at drawing a clear picture for the situation of scientific research from their point of view.

The study concluded that the lack of interest in scientific research in higher education programs at Sharia faculties affects students' abilities to carry out scientific research and its skills. To overcome such a problem, the faculties need to add courses on scientific research to their study plans along with having seminars and conferences dealing with research and its principles.
