The Effectiveness of Public Relations Departments in Enhancing the Reputation of Local Government Bodies: Tulkarm Municipality as a Case Study

This study aimed to explain the effectiveness of public relations departments in enhancing the reputation of local government bodies, and the authors chose Tulkarm Municipality as a case study.

The authors identified the problem of the study that there are some of local government bodies do not have public relations departments, and even if there are PR departments in the large cities municipalities, it suffers from internal weakness due to the lack of specialized staff in the field of public relations and PR departments are not granted the needed administrative authorities. The authors summarize the problem of the study in the following main question: how effective are public relations departments in enhancing the reputation of local government bodies?

The authors used the descriptive analytical method and a special questionnaire as tools for the study, and they used the non-probability purposive sample which included 32 employees of the municipality staff, and the study took place in the period between 1/1/2021 – 15/4/2021.

One of the most important results of the study was that there is a major role for public relations departments in enhancing the reputation of local government bodies and in presenting them in the best possible way for the public.

The authors recommended that the Palestinian Ministry of Local Government must establish laws that are imposed on all Palestinian local bodies (municipalities and village councils) that they must create public relations departments.
