Women’s Role in Environmental sustainability: Food Waste Management

Food waste management is an important global issue. The study aims to assess the role of the housewife in protecting and sustaining environmental resources, and reducing their depletion in (food waste management) in Nablus governorate. The results of the study may help in improving the current state of the environment in Nablus, through an alert or warning of the current situation, or in answering some questions. A descriptive study was conducted between November 2018 through November 2019; In Nablus governorate. The study sample is a stratified random sample, which includes 400 housewives. All entries were surveyed; The response rate was 100%. The study population consisted of 400 housewives, 100 (25%) from eastern Nablus governorate, 100 (25%) from western Nablus governorate, 100 (25%) from north Nablus governorate, and 100 (25%) from southern Nablus governorate. The results of the study showed that there are statistically significant differences between the area of ​​residence and [marital status, educational level, nature of the region living, current occupation, percentage of food that spoils before eating, how many days the participants usually shop]. It also showed that there are no statistically significant differences between the area of ​​residence and [age group, the belief that food residues are disposed of properly in Nablus, with regard to food waste and an attempt to avoid and reduce it. Checking the food before throwing to see if it should be disposed of or It can be used, trying to use what is left of the food before cooking a new food and throwing out only the bare minimum, concern about preserving the food and storing it well, being concerned about the cost of the food being thrown away, reading the expiration date of the food when buying]. Also, there are statistically significant differences between the residential area and [planning meals before the participation goes to the market (developing a shopping list based on the number of meals you expect to eat at home). If this happens, do you take into account the necessary quantities of food, do you know the degree of The temperature that the refrigerator should be in to keep her food fresh for as long as possible, and the amount of food her family wastes daily.
