The researcher has studied “Al-hadith Al-Mawqouf’, whose narration is attributed to the companions of the Prophet, by using the critical, historical and descriptive method and presenting the scholars’ opinions in a chronological order following three stages. The first stage was led by Al-Imam Al-Hakim who considered that Al-Hadith Al-Mawqouf is narrated by a well-known companion of the Prophet and it is transmitted through a series of reliable narrators. The second stage started with Al-Imam Abu Hussein Al Basri who considered Al-Hadith Al-Mawqouf as Al-Ma’rouf (familiar), if there is no doubt about its wording. And the third stage was led by Imam Ibn Hajar who set the rules of the series of narrators, called Sanad, and the real words of the Prophet called Matn which have become largely used in all fields of Shari’a, including: faith, Islamic rulings, exegesis, biography of the Prophet and the virtues. I have exposed the evidence supporting all these opinions, discussed them, and came to the conclusion that all Al-Mawqouf Hadiths mentioned by scholars have the term of Al-Ma’rfou and are of three types. Some might have been narrated by the same companion himself, others might have been related by another narrator, and some others might not have been accepted as they are subject to argumentation. I also emphasized the critical, historical and descriptive method, without authenticating the issue, so as to avoid the interpretation that the matter has been exhausted by research.
