Idols mentioned in the Holy Quran

Abstract This research deals with the issue of idols (Asnam) in terms of the reasons that made the Arabs worship them, and the period of timeduring which they were worshiped. It also defines the Nine Idols that are mentioned in the Holy Quran with respect to the places where they were located, the tribes that used to worship them and the fate of those idols. The Nine Idols that the Holy Quran speaks of are: Allat, Al 'Uzzah and Manat which were among the most known idols that belonged to Quraysh Tribe and their neighboring Arabs, in addition to Wadd, Suwa', Yaguth, Ya`uq and Nasr which were worshiped by Prophet Noah’s people, peace be upon him, before being worshiped by Arabs. And finally the idol Ba'l which Bani Isra'il worshiped after the Canaanites did, and it is believed that it is the same idol, Hubal, that the people of Makkah worshiped.
