Predictors of loneliness among the Palestinian university students in West Bank

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between loneliness, life satisfaction, perceived social support, and psychological problems among Palestinian university students in West Bank. Methods. In this study, data was collected by using four instruments, namely, Loneliness Scale (UCLA), The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Psychological problems scale and Demographic Information Form, the study included 254 participants (50.4% men and 49.6% women) volunteer undergraduate students, the range age was from 22-26 years. The data analyzed by included calculation of such descriptive statistics as, means, standard deviations, and inferential statistics like independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and stepwise regression. Result. On this study the result showed that there was strong negative relationship between loneliness and social support. No statistically significant difference was found in the loneliness level according to the gender. Furthermore the loneliness showed significant negative correlation related to life satisfaction, significant others support and friends support. The results has shown the best predictor of loneliness was significant others support.
