Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of an educational program based on advanced organizers in critical thinking in science among the ninth grade students in the public schools affiliated to the Directorate of Education in Tulkarem for the first academic year 2016/2017, by answering the following two main questions:
In order to answer the study questions, the experimental method was used in its semi-experimental form. The study was applied to a sample of ninth grade students, consisting of 104 students, who were enrolled in four divisions of two schools, a male school and a girls' school. (52) students with (23) students and (29) students studied the chemical reactions unit using the advanced organizer, the control group (52) students (24) students and (28) students studied the same unit in the usual method.
To achieve the objectives of the study and data collection, the following tools were developed: analyzing the content of the chemical reactions unit from the scientific concepts, the teacher and student guide in the chemical reactions unit prepared according to the strategy of the advanced organizers, testing the skills of critical thinking. The validity and reliability of the tools were verified before applying them to the study sample. Data were then analyzed to reach the results using SPSS. Based on the results of the study, a number of recommendations and proposals were included, including: And the holding of training courses and workshops for teachers on the building of the advanced organizer and how to employ them in learning, because of their role in providing students with the right scientific concepts and the development of critical thinking skills.
