Dr. Ayed graduated from Bir Zeit University’s department of Sociology in 1979 and taught at An-Najah National University in the Department of Sociology from 1980-1981 when he left to New York for post graduate education. Dr. Ayed received his MA and Ph.D. in sociology from the City University of New York (CUNY) in 1987. He received a post graduate Degree in Educational Administration while teaching at the New York City Public School system from 1983 until retiring in 2012 during which he became the chairperson of the Department of Social Studies for 5 years. He did this while he was teaching the CUNY’s various colleges in the department of Sociology and at St. John’s University.

Dr. Ayed returned to Palestine to teach at An-Najah University in 2012 and became the chairperson of the Department form 2013-2016.
