Course Description

Normal and pathological development of the auditory system; pediatric audiometric testing; auditory and communication aspects in the habilitation of hearing-impaired children.

In this course, information from previous courses, particularly hearing assessment beside evoked potentials will be applied to children

Course Objectives

One goal is to equip audiology students for evaluation of hearing in children of all ages. Another purpose is to prepare students to make appropriate referrals for evaluations by other disciplines, treatment and or educational management

Intended learning Outcomes and Competences
  • To equip audiology students for evaluation of hearing in children of all ages.
  • To prepare students to make appropriate referrals for evaluations by other disciplines, treatment and or educational management.
  • Conduct screening, assessment and rehabilitation
  • Collect case history information and integrate information from clients/patients, family, caregivers, teachers, and relevant others, including other professionals. 
  • Select and administer appropriate evaluation procedures, such as BEHAVIOURAL Observation Audiometry, Distraction Testing and Visual Reinforcement  Audiometry. 
  • Select or develop and use appropriate materials and instrumentation for prevention and intervention.
  • Measure and evaluate clients'/patients' performance and progress.
