Introducing the students to the application of computer software SAP for the analysis of statically determinate and indeterminate structures, including beams, 2D frames, 2D trusses, 3D frames, and 3D trusses. Review of Basic Principles of Statics: equilibrium equations, static determinacy. Application of approximate analysis of statically indeterminate structures: shear & bending moment diagrams. Use of approximate methods, trusses, vertical loads on building frames, portal frames and trusses, lateral loads on building frames: portal method and cantilever method.
i Ability to use computer software to analyze: beams, 2D frames, 2D trusses, 3D frames, and 3D trusses.
ii Ability to find axial force diagram, shear force diagram, bending moment diagram, and deflection using SAP for ant member in the structure
