Course Description

A Gerentlogical Nursing bridges the growing body of specialty knowledge with relevancy for practice. Presenting a wide range of topics, this text provides comprehensive information to serve as a strong foundation for gerontological nursing practice.

Course Objectives

 

The aim of this course is to provide the students with an overview old age processing, body changes, and some knowledge about geriatric specialist. Topics also will include body systems changes, theories, legal and ethical aspects, in addition to the health problems.

Unit 1, 2 objectives

  • Understanding the Aging Experience.
  • Understanding Theories of Aging. 
  • Understanding the Life Transitions of aged people.
  • Identify Common Aging Changes.

Unit 4, 5, 6 objectives

  • Understanding Core Elements of Gerontological Nursing Practice.
  • Identify Gerontological Nursing Roles

 

Unit 7 objectives

  • Discuss the scope of chronic conditions among the older population.
  • Discuss approaches to maximize the benefits of conventional treatments for older adults with chronic conditions.
  • Identify alternative therapies that could benefit older adults with chronic conditions.
  • Describe the development of acute and long-term institutional care.
  • Discuss the problems resulting from the lack of a unique model for long-term care.
  • List various roles of nurses in long-term care facilities.

1-Apply a plan for nursing interventions concerning to the elderly and their family needs / problems.

2-Demonstrate skills of counselling, communication and health education to deliver comprehensive care for the elderly and their caregivers.

4- Conduct nursing care plan about how to reduce burden and prevention of burnout.
