Dr. Salama has extensively worked in anti-cancer drug testing, molecular methodology, and has long-standing experience in the testing of anti-cancer molecules in preclinical studies both in vitro and in vivo. He also has expertise in the evaluation of the expected anti-inflammatory properties of compounds. In particular, his research focuses on understanding the tumor and stem cell niche, where blood vessel formation, and the recruitment of immune/blood cells change tumor and stem cell behavior, Identify the critical genes and pathways that distinguish cancer from normal (stem) ‎cells, isolate tissue-specific stem cells and define the conditions that are required to ‎repair damaged tissues, develop novel drugs for cancer therapy and regenerative ‎medicine, fix defective, disease-causing genes (gene therapy) and regrowth of ‎damaged tissues (body parts).

He has worked on role of proteases and angiogenesis in cancer over the past 8 years. His research targets strategies that combine molecular laboratory methods with the ability to access and make use of big data. Dr. Salama’s ultimate goal is to translate his discoveries into clinical trials (from Bench to ‎Bedside). He wants to work in tandem with both academic and industry colleagues to ‎share discoveries made at his lab as broadly as possible. ‎
