The energy is a strategic asset for the well-being of nations. A society able to auto-satisfy at least partly its demand for energy, enjoys a development potential higher than that of a society importing mostly sources of energy. In the framework of the model of sustainable development, the energy plays a key role in the social (fight against poverty), economic (supply safety) and environmental (protection of nature) areas. The decision to exploit an energetic resource, case of the wind, is based, among other foundations, on the results obtained from a rigorous evaluation of it.
The Public University of Navarre, in collaboration with the Palestinian University An-Najah, is running a technical cooperation project studying the wind resource in the geographical area of the West Bank. The main aim of these works is the fulfillment of the regional wind atlas and the selection of those sites with higher potential for wind energy.
As a result of this project, several meteorological stations have been installed, measuring  speed and direction of wind. Raw data from these stations have gone through an automatic quality control. Those data passing this screening have been statistically analyzed with specific
software written by the authors. This paper presents the results yielded by this software.
