In patients with severe pancreatitis with infected pancreatic necrosis, failure to achieve adequate debridement is associated with an almost 100% mortality. Traditionally this has been achieved with open necrosectomy, with very high morbidity and mortality; however. Currently, several minimally invasive techniques developed for pancreatic debridement and necrosectomy with more favourable outcome compared to open surgery. Herby we present our experience in minimally invasive retroperitoneal necrosectomy as an alternative to open necrosectomy.
