The magneto resistive effect has been known for over 100 years   but only in recent years has been exploited in magnetic thin film for the retrieval of information in magnetic tapes , discs , drums and bubble devices . The present patent is however concerned wit the use of the magneto resistive detectors for the identification and validation of coins and /or materials, an application which has not been reported in the literature
