This study aimed to explore disability mainstreaming strategies and mechanisms for implementing them in Palestinian higher education institutions from the point of view of students with disabilities. The researchers followed the descriptive approach using qualitative analysis of structured interviews conducted with students with disabilities in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as a focus group consisting of approximately 36 students with disabilities.
The study found that there are no comprehensive integration strategies for people with disabilities in Palestinian universities, and people with disabilities are not represented in the field of governance and decision-making and are not consulted in planning and managing university services. The study suggests the need for collective and participatory work to improve services provided to persons with disabilities and the need for official representation of persons with disabilities among decision makers.
