This comprehensive literature review examines the complex dynamics of retail operations in conflict-affected areas, with a specific focus on Palestine as a case study. The research synthesizes recent academic literature, empirical data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), and international reports to analyze how prolonged conflict and occupation affect retail sector performance, consumer behavior, and market structures. The study reveals that Palestinian retail operations face unprecedented challenges, with Gaza experiencing complete economic collapse (82% GDP decline in 2024) while the West Bank endures severe constraints (19% GDP decline). Consumer behavior analysis shows dramatic shifts driven by hyperinflation (237.98% in Gaza), supply chain disruptions, and fear-based stockpiling patterns consistent with proximity-to-conflict behavioral theories. The research contributes to understanding retail resilience in extreme circumstances and provides insights for policy makers, business practitioners, and academics studying commerce under conflict conditions. Key findings indicate that retail sectors in conflict zones require fundamental adaptations in business models, supply chain management, and consumer engagement strategies to maintain basic functionality and support community survival.
