Globally, more than 18 million new cases of cancer were diagnosed in 2018, and almost 10 million deaths were registered. 

In the occupied Palestinian territory (the West Bank and Gaza Strip), cancer is the second most common cause of death exceeded only by heart disease. 

Most cases are diagnosed at a late stage, leading to difficulties in symptom control and treatment options, and compromising quality of life and survival.
