This study documents the role of ICT in enabling workers to abruptly transition to work from home (WFH) due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, and to explore the ongoing barriers and challenges they face in working remotely. Our goal is to add to extant understanding about remote work by monitoring how technology alleviates the challenges created by the sudden shift, while also learning more about other WFH-induced work-life conflicts. Analysis of two surveys administered in April-May 2020 and October 2021 allow us to show the initial impacts of ICT on WFH performance, and the effect of other factors such as stress, household demands, and other demographic and work factors have on this relationship. Once the second survey has been administered and analysis completed, we will report on changes in the patterns noted in the first survey results, while the addition of other factors will allow us to provide important explanations of the socioeconomic implications of the long period of WFH the world has experienced.
