The Images of the Relationship of the Mamluk Ruling Authority with the Sufis Movement inDamascus during the Mamluk Era(1250 AD-1517 AD/ 648 H-922 H)

This study aims at exploring the nature of the relationship of the Sufi movement with the ruling authority in Damascus during the Mamluk era. This is achieved by highlighting the interest of princes, rules and Mamluk rulers in building worshipping center, Sufis Zawyas and Sufis spiritual sanctuary and taking care of them. Also, the majority of the Sufi’s participate in quaranic lectures; this has led to the prosperity of the movement the Damaskeen society in times of hardships and prosperity. The official interest of the Mamluk state in Sufis movement is through the positive relationships between them leading to appoint the Sufis leaders high stature positions. Besides, there is an important role for the Sufis in mediating between the Mamluk state and the Sufis concerning the recognition of their demands including taxes changes and interfering in the release of prisoners such as the case of Ibn Taimia. In return, this study reveals that stand of the officials in the Mamluk authority from some Sufis extreme practices which is penalizing whoever practice them by death.
