Background: Candida albicans (C. albicans) is one of the main etiological agents causing cutaneous candidiasis (CC). Objective: The aims of this study were to compare genotypes of C. albicans strains causing CC in Palestinian infants. Methods: A total of 100 isolates of C. albicans were isolated from infected lesions. Genomic DNAs were amplified by PCR targeting 25S rDNA and ALT repeats in repetitive sequence (RPS) using specific primers named P-I and P-II, respectively. Results: Fourteen genotypes were detected. A clear correlation was found between genotypes, gender and age. Strains of C. albicans isolated from different cutaneous locations of the same patient had identical genotypes. The highest percentages of the isolates corresponded to genotype-B (47%), genotype-V (34%), and genotype-BV (15%). Conclusions: Genotypes of C. albicans strains and infant age and gender were significantly different. Genotypes are identical in the same patient. It is crucial to identify C. albicans to the species level due to differences in antifungal susceptibility levels within the genus Candida. In addition, it is essential to classify C. albicans at the strain level to reveal the route of infection
