In the present work cellulose powder wasextracted from olive industry solid waste and then con-verted into cellulose acetate. The cellulose powder wasextracted from olive industry solid waste by kraft pulpingprocess and multistep bleaching p sequences. An elementalchlorine-free chemical bleaching sequence chlorine diox-ide (D)-cold caustic extraction (E)-hypochlorite (H)-hydrogen peroxide (P) was used. Cellulose powder wasobtained in about 35 % yield. The extracted cellulose andcellulose acetate made from thereof were extensivelycharacterized using Fourier transform infrared spectros-copy, electron microscopy sciences, gel-permeation chro-matography/high-performance liquid chromatography, andviscometry. Our key finding in this study was that oliveindustry solid waste is a valuable source of cellulosepowder and its derivatives. This is important, since ourresults show how lignocellulosic agricultural wastes couldbe utilized and converted into cellulose products with highvalue
