In 2018 the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas dissolved the Palestinian Legislative Council, but he did not call for new elections– as per the SCC ruling on the matter. In addition, he also replaced the sitting High Judicial Council with a temporary one. Arguably, these acts have concentrated the president’s powers, making it harder to ensure accountability in government.
