Myopia is the most common refractive error and is now endemic Worldwide, especially in
Asia with prevalence rates of 70–87% have been reported amongst populations of
schoolchildren and young adults, and around 20–50% in America and Europe. Recent
increases in global myopia prevalence rates have raised significant concerns
as myopia increases the lifelong risk of various sight-threatening ocular conditions.
