The course deals with different areas of materials (metals, nano-technology, thin films, ceramics and polymers) from chemistry point of view. Basic theories of bonding, structure, physical and chemical properties, with reference to understanding materials, are discussed. Contemporary applications of materials are involved. Teaching will be conducted in two different ways: lecture mode and interactive mode. Lectures will cover the textbook materials, whereas interactive learning will cover additional & supplemental materials from beyond the lecture materials
Enables the student to use his/her earlier chemistry background to understand materials. The student will be able to comprehend what materials are, how useful in societal demands they are, why research & development focuses on certain compounds, and what is the role of a chemist in developing new materials. Material production, functioning and development are involved.
