This course learns students about retrieval and dissemination of drug information, how to look up the drug data from different resources, and the resources of drug information. In addition, it examines the main drug related problems including adverse drug reaction and drug interaction. Furthermore, this course examines medical prescriptions, their types and how to deal with them; common pharmaceutical forms. The student will learn how to keep updated regarding recent advances in the field of hospital pharmacy and how to evaluate modern hospital pharmacy literature. Students will do presentations that compare the efficacy of various drugs. Students will also be engaged in discussions with the medical team regarding latest medical and drug news as well as the ethical and professional conduct
With a thorough background established in pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, the aim of this course is to prepare students to know the retrieval and dissemination of drug information, how to find any information regarding medication, and how to search in any resource of drug information. In addition, it aims to introduce the newly approved medications for a common group of medical disorders.
By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

a.2. Describe the main characteristics of newly approved medications of a group of common diseases.
a.3. Identify drug-related problems such as drug side effect and drug interactions
a.4. Recognize the different grades of strength of use of medications in various diseases according to evidence based medicine.

b.1. Analyze relevant information for drugs from different drug resources
b.2. Evaluate the use of medications of selected diseases during pregnancy and lactation.
b.3. Design appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic plans for selected diseases for geriatric and pediatric patients.
b.4. Design plan for responding to a prescription during the dispensing process.

c.1. Design appropriate plan for drug retrieval and dissemination from drug information resources.
c.2. Evaluate and solve drug-related problems (adverse drug reaction and drug interactions)
c.3. Apply learned information in providing appropriate patient counseling during the dispensing process.
