Course Description

This course is a conceptual one, which designed mainly to provide the student with the introductory managerial concepts and knowledge, it focuses on the three functions of management: planning, organizing and controlling, discuss the nature of managerial work, the evolution of management history, the organizational culture, the effect of external environment forces on the organization success and how managers make decisions.

Course Objectives
  • Understand of the world of management, including the nature and the definition of management, the manager's functions roles and skills.
  • Understand the development of management science through tracing the evolution of management theories and schools, and understand the principles assumptions and initiating conditions for each school.
  • Learn how managers make decision, what are the conditions effect the decision making, different types of decisions and decision styles.
  • Develop an awareness of the planning process, purposes, types, how to set goals, and different planning tools.
  • Understand the definition of organizing process as one of the major function of management, the definition and dimensions of organization structure, and how the organization design is developed by managers through the discussion of the effect of different contingent factors.
  • Understand the controlling process, types, tools, importance, and the contemporary issues in controlling
  • Learn how the environment profoundly effects the performance of organization, how to understand the organizational culture through the analyzing its levels and how to create an effective culture.
