Course Description

This course builds on the unifying concepts basic to nursing practice introduced in foundations of nursing (I). The students will build on the concepts of the nursing process in providing care to individual clients requiring primary and select secondary interventions. Emphasis will be placed on nursing intervention skills in non-acute and selected acute health care settings

Course Objectives

The course aims to:
The purpose of this course is to offerdifferent concepts and skills will be taught to students about: 

  • Efficient usage of body mechanics, & passive range of motion exercises, 
  • development of understanding of proper ambulatory technique for patient’s condition care focus on preoperative care & postoperative care, 
  • development of understanding of proper wound care
  • development of understanding of proper promotion of urinary, bowel elimination
  • development of understanding of proper medication administration,
  • development of understanding of proper oxygen therapy,
  • development of understanding of proper infection control
  • development of understanding of proper gastrointestinal intubation.
Intended learning Outcomes and Competences

At the end of this course the students will be able to 

  1. Assess for the physical manifestations that occur with alterations in oxygenation.
  2. Develop a plan of care for a patient with altered need of oxygenation.
  3. Implement measures to correct imbalances of fluids and electrolytes or acids and bases such as enteral or parenteral replacements and blood transfusions.
  4. Discuss diet counseling and patient teaching in relation to patient expectation.
  5. Obtain history for a patient with alteration in urinary elimination.
  6. Use critical thinking in the provision of care to patients with alterations in bowel elimination.
  7. Describe complications of wound healing.
  8. List appropriate nursing interventions for patient with impaired skin integrity.

  10. How to administer oxygen therapy
  11. Able to move and transfer the patient 
  12. Giving pre and post-operative care 
  13. Knowing all types of surgical sutures  and how to remove it
  14. How to deal with the sterile objects and know all sterilization methods 
  15. Administer all GI tubes and insertion of urinary catheterization 
  16. Able to give medication according to the rules and regulation
  17. Able to give different types of injections as well as giving IV medication
