Course Description

Overall aims of course

To utilize the steps of the research process in the form of a paper organised in a conventional scientific way.

The student will be able to utilize the steps of the research process in the proposal and conduct of circumscribed nursing research project.

In this course a relevant nursing problem is identified. Systematic observations of events should be carried out using relevant quantitative or qualitative methods. The validity and reliability of the methods should be discussed. The results should be presented, interpreted, discussed and related to a theoretical level. The work is to be documented in the form of a paper organised in a conventional scientific way... Included in the course are presenting a defence of the work and acting as an opponent of another project. Students will select a research project of actual interest

Faculty members will assist as supervisors for the area of the study. The findings of a written research paper will be present to the seminar group. It is required and restricted to last semester senior nursing students.

 

Course Objectives
  • Develop a study proposal by choosing a problem that is related to nursing
  • Perform a systemic review study by using different data bases such as pubmed, Cinahl and Cochrane library
  • Conduct aphenomenographicStudy to investigate the perception of population of the study
  • Analyse the content when general Qualitative Descriptive Research is used
  • Demonstarte data collection by using a focus group
  • Demonstarte data collection by using a questionnaire
  • Identify steps taken by the researcher to ensure that the subjects participating in a study have been protected from any violation of human rights
  • Discuss what is meant by informed consent and the key elements that should be included in an adequate informed consent
  • Describe how data collection affects the applicability of the study results
  • Demonstrate Project instructions guidelines when you write the project report
  • Utilize a written research critique by using aresearch critique guidelines
  • Demonstrate a Pilot testing
  • Discuss the validity and reliability of the quantitative research methods by using trangulation for validity and Cronbach Alfa ( test-retest) for reliability
  • Discuss The trustworthiness and accredibility of  qualitative  research practices
  • Utilize the SPSSstatistical program for data analysis

At the end of this course the student should be able to accomplish the following:

c.1     demonstrate proficiency in writing a scientific paper in the form of graduation projectby using “Writing Research Papers” & “Project Instructions”guidelines

c2. Analyse the data of the project by using SPSS data program

D. General and transferable skills (Affective)

d.1Refine critical analysis skills by demonstrating as an opponent to another project.

d.2Present a scientific paper in the form of either comprehensive informational and persuasive oral presentations for organizational settings  or poster at the end of the study period

d.3 demonstrate a defence on a scientific paper effectively and confidently
