Course Description

The course deals with historical and archaeological topics, events, concepts, and terminology related to the beginning of the emergence of human civilizations in terms of human movement from one place to another, living in caves and rock shelters in the stone ages, and then settling and living in agricultural villages, and this developed into towns and then into major cities in which people practice political activities. and economic, social and religious.

The focus will be on studying the civilization of the ancient Near East region - being the first major nucleus in which civilizations arose on this land - which is the civilization of Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt and the Levant. Civilizational theories related to its emergence and formation will be briefly explained. And to highlight the role of the ancient East, and its civilizational achievements in various fields of knowledge and sciences, including political, economic, social, and intellectual.

Course Objectives

 Defining civilization, and showing its origin, manifestations, development, and methods of its decline.

 Comparisons and interviews between the characteristics of different civilizations.

 Tracking human achievements in space, time, borders and natural areas of human creativity.

 Learn about aspects of thought, culture and religion in the civilizations of the ancient East.

 Identifying the cultural achievements of the civilizations of the ancient Near East.

Intended learning Outcomes and Competences

 Recognize the nature of civilization and history in relation to society.

 Remember the scientific terminology related to the history of civilizations.

 Introduced to the first human civilizations that arose since the third millennium BC. Such as: the ancient Egyptian civilization and the Mesopotamian civilization.

 To remember the scientific terms associated with the origins of ancient human civilizations, especially the eastern ones, homo erectus, neanderthal, hoomo sapiens etc.

 Draws the tree of human civilizations and the general knowledge of each of them.
